President Point July Print E-mail
What a year we have had! This is my final article as President and as we approach the end of the school year, I would like to give a shout out to all those who made a difference this year. Whatever time, talent or resources you donated Mason is better off for it. Although we don’t have room to acknowledge everyone, I would like to give a special recognition to the PTA Board who made the commitment to our school and students and made a difference. This recognition is in no particular order so here it goes. A big thanks goes to Dawn Kaiser our Secretary for keeping a written record of our meetings. Not only was she a good scribe, but also she helped out with box tops, the Jog-a-thon, and a bunch of other stuff. I would also like to thank Josiebelle Trampe for being our Treasurer and keeping track of our money. Kimberley Poole wore two hats as both our Fundraising VP and our Hospitality Chairman. She got rave reviews from our staff at the Appreciation Luncheon. Donna did a good job as our Membership VP keeping track of the 224 people who joined this year’s PTA.

Our thanks also go out to Tiffany Salcedo for reformatting our PTA Newsletter this year. She developed new content and a cool style to make this newsletter uniquely Mason. (Please don’t edit my last article. hehe :) ) Brad Brockmeyer made our website happen and kept it updated; making it look and function as a high tech site. Watch out for next year, more info will only be available through the website. A special thanks goes to Kathy Hall and Nina McGuckin who served as our Program Chairs. Among other things, they made Grandparents and Goodies, Moms and Muffins and Dads and Donuts successful events. I would also like to thank Vera Savage for coordinating the International Potluck. Although it was Vera’s first time heading up the event, she pulled it off like a pro. Michele Jazo did a great job as our Indirect Fundraising Chair person and our event coordinator for our Barnes and Nobel fundraiser. Michele worked tirelessly to set up the ongoing fundraisers with Amazon.com, E-script, Jamba Juice and Fresh and Easy – to name a few.

A couple of people who wear multiple hats at school are our Teacher Representative, Ms. Sylvia Young and our fearless leader, Ms. Deidre Hardson, (our principal). Their ability to work all day with our students and then attend our 6 p.m. Board Meetings while still being awake and coherent, makes them super-human in my book. There is no doubt that our school is a remarkable place when we see efforts like this being demonstrated by our staff.

What is even more incredible, is that the people mentioned above have agreed to stay on and serve another year on Mason’s PTA. We are certainly blessed to have these types of quality people who have decided to share their commitment and passion towards our school once again.

Our Book Fair would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Bethany and Matt Hetrcik. This dynamic husband and wife duo worked an entire week staffing our book fair to make sure our event was successful (even when it was raining). I also appreciate that Wendy Keely was our Historian this year and for her support so I could help out at our school (don’t worry…I have already thanked her!). Another big hand goes out to Reuben Pearson III for his role in our Dad’s Club; we will miss you next year. I would also like to thank our Lion Mascot. You know who you are, but not many know who you are.

I would now like to take this opportunity to congratulate Beth Brookshire and Stephanie Snyder for stepping up and being elected as next year’s PTA Co-Presidents. The stage is set for another great year at Mason. Please join with me and help support Beth and Stephanie as they make things happen at our school.

I would like to extend one final thanks to all those who made my job as president enjoyable and fulfilling. I truly enjoyed our time making Mason a better place.

Sincerely,
David Keely
