President’s Point
To borrow a line from Charles Dickens, these are the best of times and the worst of times. How we view our world has a lot to do with the choices we make. Sure we are facing financial, employment and housing uncertainties never seen before in our country. However, I am positively recharged every day I drop my children off at school. I see over 800 future citizens full of joy, optimism and hope. It’s great to be a kid and I hope some of their enthusiasm for life rubs off on me!
The choices we make can serve as a lesson to all those around us. I am reminded of a recent visit to a local restaurant. My daughter noticed that the tip was not picked up, because it was carefully folded and placed between some sauce bottles on the table. My daughter questioned why the money was left and I informed her that it was a tip rewarding the waitress for good service. My daughter thought for a while and then proclaimed that we need to find the waitress and make sure she gets her money back, because after all she earned it. I watched with pride as my daughter left our table and searched the restaurant for the waitress, who when confronted with the cash seemed a bit shocked. What an example of personal integrity. How many of our adult problems could we fix if we observe the correct choices made by our children.
We all have choices and I hope you choose to support our upcoming events. By the time you read this, our Fall Fundraiser has already begun. Please do what you can to sponsor this event because 60% of the proceeds will be distributed to our classrooms to help with student activities and field trips.
The PTA is also sponsoring the Reflections art program for the second year. Last year nearly 150 students participated in the event. This year offers even more chance for expression with the theme titled Wow. If you have any questions about the program, please ask your students teacher for more details. The student finalists who will be chosen to move on to compete at the Council Level will be selected at the International Potluck. The Potluck will be held on October 23rd and is a celebration of the native cuisine representative of the many ethnic cultures that are represented by our Mason families. More information on the Potluck will be sent home by flyer. So be prepared to make your favorite meal to bring and share with the school.
With so much going on to support our students, it is important that our lines of communications are available. Please take the time to read the information sent home with your students and our Newsletter that is filled with useful information. For even more timely information, please refer to the school’s website at www.masonpta.org. Sincerely, David Keely PTA President – Dad to a Mason 3rd grader & Kindergartner
